Description

Patriotic 4th of July crinkle cookies with red, white, and blue colors. Soft, sweet, and perfect for celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup white granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 10 drops red food coloring (or ¼ tsp coloring gel)
  • 10 drops blue food coloring (or ¼ tsp coloring gel)
  • ½ cup powdered sugar (plus more if needed)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, add soft butter and sugar. Use a spatula or handheld mixer and mix until smooth. Then add eggs and mix until well combined.
  2. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt into the bowl of wet ingredients (step 1). Mix until well combined. The dough should feel thick and sticky. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  3. Preheat the oven to 350F and line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
  4. Divide the chilled dough into 3 equal portions and place them in 3 different bowls. If you are using a scale for precise measurements, each portion should weigh about 240-260grams.
  5. Add red food coloring to one bowl, and blue food coloring to the second bowl. Gently knead the dough with a spatula and mix until the dough turns into an even color. Leave the last bowl plain as is.
  6. Take ½ tablespoon of each color and combine them. Use the palm of your hands to shape the dough into a ball. Repeat with the remaining dough.
  7. Place powdered sugar in a small bowl. Roll each ball in powdered sugar to coat thoroughly and evenly. Coat each ball twice to create the perfect crinkle top.
  8. Place the coated cookie dough on the prepared baking sheets, leaving some space in between. Bake for 12-14 minutes, or until the tops are crackly. The cookies should still be soft in the center but set around the edges.
  9. Leave the cookies on the baking pan for about 10 minutes. Then transfer them onto a wire rack and allow to cool completely. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Chill dough thoroughly for easier handling.
  • Double-coating in powdered sugar ensures perfect crinkles.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
